The pet food market is growing rapidly, and with it, the demand for advanced packaging solutions. High-quality packaging for pet food and litter plays a key role in preserving nutritional value, ensuring safety, and making products attractive to consumers.
Packaging for dry pet food
Dry food for dogs, cats, rodents, birds, and other animals often contains fats, proteins, vitamins, and flavorings that are sensitive to environmental influences. Therefore, the packaging must be:
- Moisture-proof — to prevent mold growth, loss of crunch, and spoilage.
- Inert to contents — not reacting chemically with fats or additives.
- Strong and resistant to mechanical damage — for convenient transportation and storage.
- Resealable — especially important for multi-kilogram packs.
For these purposes, multi-layer high-barrier films are used to ensure airtightness, long-lasting aroma retention, and protection from light and air.
Packaging for wet pet food
Wet food requires a special approach. Due to its texture and moisture content, it demands an absolutely airtight environment. The following are used:
- Retort pouches — high-temperature packaging that allows sterilization of the product together with the package at 130 °C, ensuring absolute microbiological safety and long shelf life without preservatives.
- Aluminum or metallized layers — to protect against light and oxygen.
- Heat-resistant laminations — to prevent deformation of the package during sterilization.
Such pouches are lightweight, compact, take up less storage space, and allow for branded designs with bright, high-definition printing.
